I am always interested in being a responsible person rather than an irresponsible personality.I feel buildings should be much more than ordinary enclosures, much more than what they usually seem to be. Why can’t a building for instance be sexy and seductive like a sought after model? Why can’t a building be handsome and dashing like a sought after bachelor? Why can’t a building convey a passionate emotion, poetic-like attitude, a sensational story, or an outstanding mood? Why can’t a building be alive like the living things it accommodates, like some guests and even some pests; so alive that it could seem serious today and perhaps jovial tomorrow?
Have we fully manipulated architectural morphology, as well as, building elements enough to get the very best out of them? Have we fully investigated the importance of bioclimatization in architecture? Have we fully explored design axes, as well as, design dimensions, or are we still limited to, as well as, stuck to our conventional x-axis and y-axis? If artists have been able to manipulate two-dimensional canvasses to great success with immortal creations like the Mona Lisa, why can’t we as architects do much more with our three dimensional spaces and places? Have we fully explored the characteristics of the golden section, and if not, why? Have we fully drawn inspiration from nature for our various designs; termites do so, spiders do so, even bees do so, why can’t we? Should we not marvel at the durable castle-like designs of the termites, the intricate web designs of the spiders, as well as, the unique beehive designs of the bees? Is it mere coincidence, or much more, which makes trees adapt to climate change and why can we not make buildings respond in the same way? Why are people more willing to spend on fashion, extravagant holidays, music CDs, movie DVDs, videogame CDs, electronics, and automobiles instead of on architecture; why do architects have to struggle to convince clients of the importance of the clients’ own proposed buildings? Why are people more willing to attend a music concert, a movie premiere, or a football game, instead of an architectural exhibition, is architecture not just as entertaining, and if not, why?
Do I have all the exact answers to the above questions and much more? Well, maybe I do and maybe I do not, but my search for these answers have certainly helped increase my awareness and attempt to take my creative, research, as well as, design skills to extraordinary levels. I desire to work to unveil, as well as, share the answers and it sure will be fun doing so. Great discoveries can be made but it starts with that all-important crucial first step, it begins with that precious decision; that desire to even risk making mistakes in order to learn more. Interestingly, even when we cease being architecture students, we should always remain students of architecture and this is an important philosophy I take to heart. I eagerly look forward to giving the world the best designs ever.
